“With Profound Sadness, We Announce His Passing” — Family Confirms Death Of PDP Chieftain Daniel Orbih

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party and political ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, has died.

Orbih died on Monday, August 31, 2026, according to a statement issued by his family and made public on Tuesday by Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka.

The family, in a statement signed by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih, described the deceased as a beloved brother, husband, father and uncle, while expressing grief over his passing.

“With profound sadness and a heavy heart but in total submission to the will of the Almighty God, the family of Chief M.C.K. Orbih announce the passing of our beloved brother, husband, father and uncle, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, who passed away on Monday, 31 August 2026,” the statement read.

The family did not disclose the cause of his death.

Orbih is survived by his wife, Florence Orbih; his children, Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Mildred Omonemi Orbih; his brothers and sisters, as well as members of his extended family.

The family appealed to relatives, friends and well-wishers to remember them in their prayers as they mourn the loss.

“At this difficult time, we ask family members, friends and well-wishers to remember the entire family in their prayers as we mourn this painful loss,” the statement added.

It said details of the burial arrangements would be announced at a later date.

“May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the family said.

Orbih was a prominent political figure within the PDP and was associated with the political camp of Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and current FCT Minister.

Beyond party politics, Orbih also held a significant appointment in Edo State’s tertiary education sector.

In 2024, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo appointed him Chairman of the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.

At the time of the appointment, Orbih was identified as the South-South Zonal Chairman of the PDP.

His appointment was announced in a statement issued by the then Secretary to the Edo State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor.

Orbih’s death has brought an end to the career of a political figure who maintained links within the PDP while also serving in a major public institution in Edo State.

The family has asked for prayers and privacy as it prepares to announce funeral arrangements.
