The House of Representatives Committee on Infectious Diseases has canvassed the streamlining of implementation of grants for the control of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and others diseases by recipients to avoid duplication.
The Committee chair, Amobi Ogah, made the call in Abuja on Friday during the panel’s oversight visit to some of the principal recipients of Global Fund grants, including the Institute of Human Virology, Family Health International (FHI360), and the Catholic Relief Services (CRS).
While commending the recipients for their concerted efforts in the response against HIV/ AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and other infectious diseases, Amobi said, “It is imperative that every mobilised resource must be judiciously expended and accounted for. Therefore, the Committee is charging all Global Fund recipients to sit up as it will no longer be business as usual.
“To this end, I will reiterate once more for the benefit of doubt that all recipients of Global Fund grants and sub-recipients are to submit their implementation plan to the parliament for approval,” adding that they would also be required to quarterly report the activities to ensure transparency.
