Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, former Chief of Staff to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has resumed duties at the University of Pennsylvania, United States, as a visiting scholar.
Speaking in an interview, Gambari disclosed that he has begun work on his memoir as part of his academic responsibilities at the institution.
He explained that upon arriving on campus in Philadelphia, he immediately commenced documenting his decades of experience in diplomacy, governance, and international relations.
Gambari was received at the university by Wale Adebanwi, a senior academic and departmental head in the Graduate School.
The veteran diplomat was appointed Distinguished Visiting Scholar at the Center for Africana Studies of the University of Pennsylvania, with his tenure scheduled to run from January to August 2026.
According to Gambari, the appointment—approved by the university’s School of Arts and Sciences will allow him to contribute to academic discussions while advancing his research projects, including the writing of his memoir.
Gambari previously served as Nigeria’s Minister of External Affairs and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and is also the founder of the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development.
His forthcoming memoir is expected to reflect his extensive career spanning academia, international diplomacy, and public service in Nigeria and beyond.
