The Delta state Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, Thursday warned officers against indiscipline, abuse of human rights and unprofessional conduct, both on and off duty.
CP Oyeniyi who gave the warning in Asaba, at the police command headquarters during his maiden press briefing said all officers would be held accountable for their actions.
He stated that “going forward, we will focus on preventing crime, not just reacting to it. The command will increase police presence in communities, strengthen intelligence gathering, and work closely with residents to improve security. Security is a shared responsibility; all have a role to play in this.
However, he said that the Inspector-General of Police has issued a clear directive on the need to streamline tactical operations across commands.
“This directive is both timely and necessary, and under my leadership, all tactical teams within the Delta state command will be properly coordinated, supervised, and aligned with the overall policing strategy of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
“The objective is clear: To eliminate duplication of duties, enhance accountability, and ensure that all tactical deployments are intelligence-driven and result-oriented.
Crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and cult activities require quick and well-coordinated responses. By properly organising our tactical teams, we will be able to respond faster and deal with criminal activities more effectively.’
Police boss noted that, “I am fully aware of the responsibility that comes with this office; hence, the safety of lives and property in Delta State is our priority, and I am committed to doing everything within the law to ensure that residents feel safe in their homes, workplaces, and communities.”
