Actor Revealed Cancer Had Entered ‘Last Stages’ Weeks Earlier

The hospice update comes just weeks after Garbutt shared a devastating turn in his health, revealing that his cancer had advanced rapidly.

The 28-year-old actor said recent scans confirmed his condition had worsened, marking a difficult shift in his journey.

“Over the last month or so, I’ve been having quite a bit of pain in my back and hip. My cancer team admitted me the other day for observations and to do a few scans. Unfortunately. the scans have shown that the cancer has progressed rapidly in my body and l am now entering the last stages of my life.”

From Diagnosis to Advocacy: Garbutt’s Journey With Melanoma

Garbutt was first diagnosed with malignant melanoma at 25 after noticing a small lump behind his ear, something he initially believed was harmless.

When it continued to grow, doctors confirmed it was skin cancer, a moment that would change the course of his life.

Since then, he has used his platform with purpose, urging others to pay close attention to their bodies and seek medical advice early, hoping his experience might help someone else catch the warning signs in time.

‘I Can Enjoy Time With My Family’: Star Reflects on Life and Legacy

Despite the weight of his heartbreaking health battle, Garbutt has continued to center his focus on the life he has created and the people who matter most to him.

He shared that making his update public was a way to ease the emotional burden of telling loved ones individually, allowing him to spend more meaningful time with family and friends.

“I’m putting this out there as it is really difficult to tell people individually, and I hope now it’s in the open, then I can enjoy the time with my amazing family and friends.”

Looking back on the years since his diagnosis, Garbutt spoke with quiet pride about the milestones he has reached along the way.

“Since being diagnosed 4 years ago I have achieved so many of my life goals – 30 episodes in a TV show, being the lead in a movie (that should be out soon), buying my own house, marrying my best friend, and becoming a father to the most incredible baby girl who never fails to make me smile.

“Thank you to all that have reached out over the years and supported me and my family.”

He also invited those close to him to stay connected, valuing presence and shared moments more than ever.

“If anyone wants to meet up for a pint, coffee, or general bit of craic, please reach out, and we can try and make it work.”
