Muhammad Ali Pate, Minister of Health and Social Welfare, and Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, are both eyeing governorship positions in Bauchi State. In the South-East, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State for Labour, is weighing a return to the National Assembly or a governorship bid in Abia State.
In the North-East, Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture, and Saidu Ahmed Alkali of Gombe State are reportedly preparing their campaigns. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, may test his political strength in Ogun State, while Bernard Doro, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, is said to be considering a senatorial seat in Plateau State. In Akwa Ibom, Ekperikpe Ekpo is projected to contest the governorship.
All of these ministers are expected to leave office ahead of party primaries scheduled between April 22 and May 20, 2026, in line with electoral regulations. Meanwhile, other political heavyweights in Kwara State, including Issa Onilu, DG of the National Orientation Agency; Abubakar Olanrewaju Suleiman, DG of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies; and Wale Sulaiman, Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila Orangun, are also being linked to 2027 governorship ambitions.
