US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Iran had given what he called a major “present” to the United States, suggesting it may be connected to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.

The Strait of Hormuz carries a large share of global energy supplies. Any disruption there can affect oil markets and energy availability worldwide. In recent months, tensions between the US, Israel and Iran have caused instability around the route, raising fears of energy shortages and market volatility. The United States has also faced challenges in keeping the waterway open.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump called the reported “present” a positive development but did not give specific details about what Iran had offered.

“They gave us a present and the present arrived today, and it was a very big present, worth a tremendous amount of money,” he said. “It wasn’t nuclear, it was oil-and gas-related, and it was a very nice thing they did.”

Comments on Iran Conflict

Trump also repeated his view that the United States had already won its conflict with Iran. He suggested that Pete Hegseth was unhappy with how quickly the campaign ended.

“Pete didn’t want it to be settled,” Trump said, without giving further explanation.

Ongoing Negotiations with Iran

Trump said that diplomatic talks with Iran were still ongoing. He stated that US officials were in contact with “the right people” in Tehran and claimed that Iranian leaders wanted to reach an agreement to end hostilities.

“We’re in negotiations right now,” he said, without giving more details about possible talks involving U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner this week. He added that JD Vance and Marco Rubio were also involved in the negotiations.
