In Nigeria’s quest to expand digital learning and modernise its education sector through innovation, the country received a significant boost at the weekend as an indigenous technology firm, Wowbii Infrastructure Limited, donated interactive learning equipment to Federal Unity Colleges nationwide.
The donation, facilitated through the Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA), includes 20 interactive smart boards to enhance teaching and learning through the integration of digital tools in classrooms.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to support the Federal Government’s drive toward e-learning and the digitisation of the nation’s education system.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of Wowbii Infrastructure Limited, Gbolahan Olayomi, described the intervention as a strategic contribution to improving the quality of education in public schools, noting that technology has become an indispensable component of modern learning and that Nigerian students must be equipped with the digital skills required to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
According to him, the interactive boards will enable teachers to deliver lessons more effectively through the use of multimedia presentations, digital content, and real-time classroom interaction, thereby improving students’ understanding and participation.
Olayomi also emphasised the role of private sector collaboration in supporting government efforts to transform the education sector, stressing that sustainable progress in education requires the collective commitment of stakeholders.
In his remarks, the President-General of USOSA, Michael Magaji, commended the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that aligns with ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s education system.
Magaji underscored the importance of introducing digital learning tools at an early stage, noting that exposure to technology in the classroom will enhance students’ intellectual development and prepare them to compete in the global knowledge economy.
He further highlighted the historical significance of Federal Unity Colleges in promoting national integration and academic excellence, adding that the provision of modern learning infrastructure would further reinforce their role as centres of educational development.
