The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on opposition parties to channel their efforts toward rebuilding their structures and preparing for the 2031 elections, rather than disputing what it described as concluded 2027 mandates.
The party made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesman, Seye Oladejo, in response to ongoing political activities and comments from opposition groups within the state and across the country.
Oladejo stated that while opposition parties play a vital role in strengthening democratic governance, their actions must be guided by realism, responsibility, and respect for the will of the electorate. He noted that the outcome of recent elections reflects Nigerians’ confidence in the APC’s leadership, vision, and development agenda.
The APC also criticised opposition parties for what it described as poor organisation and lack of unity, pointing to last-minute alliances formed ahead of party primaries as evidence of disarray.
“Rather than dissipating energy contesting settled mandates, we strongly advise opposition elements to focus on rebuilding, re-strategising, and preparing meaningfully for the 2031 elections,” the statement read.
The party reiterated its commitment to governance, stating that its priority remains delivering on key areas such as infrastructure development, economic growth, security, and the welfare of citizens.
It further urged opposition parties to adopt a more constructive approach by accepting electoral outcomes and aligning with current political realities.
According to the statement, the period leading to 2031 provides sufficient time for reflection, internal reforms, and the development of credible alternatives, while calling on all political actors to contribute to the peace, stability, and progress of Lagos State.
