The Nigeria Police Drive have rescued 11 of the 18 passengers kidnapped by gunmen on the Benin–Akure freeway close to Obarenren village in Ovia north-east native authorities of Edo state.
The passengers had been kidnapped on December 12 after the assailants allegedly stopped their car at gunpoint, fired photographs and compelled the victims into the bush.
Eno Ikoedem, spokesperson of the Edo state police command, confirmed the event on Sunday.
Ikoedem mentioned the command obtained a misery name shortly after the assault and instantly mobilised safety operatives.
She mentioned the police, working with the military, vigilantes and native hunters, launched a bush-combing operation to trace the abductors.
“On Sunday, 11 of the kidnapped passengers had been efficiently rescued, whereas seven others are nonetheless within the custody of their abductors,” she mentioned.
Ikoedem assured that efforts had been ongoing to safe the discharge of the remaining victims, at the same time as she urged members of the general public to stay calm and cooperate with safety companies, expressing confidence that the remaining passengers could be rescued unharmed.
