Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Home Speaker Tajudeen Abbas have been taken to courtroom over claims that lawmakers allegedly pay as much as ₦3 million to current payments and motions within the Nationwide Meeting.
The case was filed by the Socio-{Economic} Rights and Accountability Undertaking (SERAP), following a viral video the place a lawmaker, Hon. Ibrahim Auyo, accused his colleagues of paying between ₦1 million and ₦3 million to desk legislative gadgets.
SERAP’s swimsuit, marked FHC/L/CS/2214/2025, was filed on the Federal Excessive Courtroom in Abuja.

The organisation can also be praying the courtroom for “an order of mandamus to direct and compel Mr Akpabio and Mr Abbas to take all mandatory measures to guard the whistleblower, Hon. Ibrahim Auyo, who made the allegations of ‘₦3m Bribe-for-Payments’ on the Nationwide Meeting.”
The group argues that the allegations signify a breach of public belief and undermine the oath taken by legislators.
It acknowledged that lawmakers ought to by no means be required to “pay bribes to current motions and payments,” insisting that the claims, if true, “make a mockery of lawmaking” in Nigeria.
