Political events and candidates taking part within the Anambra State governorship election have signed a peace accord forward of the vote scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
The ceremony passed off on Monday on the Worldwide Conference Centre, Awka, and was organised by the Nationwide Peace Committee, chaired by former Head of State Abdulsalam Abubakar.
Bishop Mathew Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto supervised the occasion.
Events represented on the signing included the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Get together (PDP), Labour Get together (LP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Get together, Motion Alliance (AA), African Motion Congress (AAC), Allied Peoples Motion (APM), Motion Peoples Get together (APP), Boot Get together, and New Nigeria Political Get together (NNPP), amongst others.
Talking on the occasion, the Inspector Common of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, represented by Deputy Inspector Common Ben Okolo, confirmed that ample safety personnel have been deployed throughout all 21 native authorities areas of the state.
“We name on candidates and their followers to embrace peace earlier than, throughout, and after the election,” he mentioned, stressing the significance of political tolerance and respect for democratic values.
The Chairman of INEC, Professor Joash Amupitan, additionally urged candidates and events to decide to a peaceable and credible election.
The peace accord signing is seen as a major step towards fostering concord, mutual belief, and a violence-free atmosphere as Anambra prepares for the November 8 governorship ballot.
